Flat spreadsheets repeat producer foundation years and appellation details thousands of times. WineDB normalizes entities into wineries, wines, vintages, blends, and tasting_profiles linked by strict foreign keys.

Blend Sum Check Trigger

Database trigger trg_check_blend_sum_insert fires on every INSERT or UPDATE to vintage_blends. If the cumulative sum across varieties for a vintage exceeds 100.001%, SQLite raises an immediate ABORT.

Grape varietal names are automatically normalized against VIVC ampelographic registries during ingestion, mapping synonyms (e.g., ShirazSyrah, CannonauGrenache) to canonical keys.

Secondary market indexes are calculated strictly from public auction hammer prices. If fewer than 3 independent lots are observed within 12 months, the index remains NULL to prevent speculative bias.
